Government Hypocrisy at its Finest!
Remember the days in 2009 when President Obama threw a fit over the bonuses wall street bankers were given after they were bailed out? He was quoted as describing it as "shameful" and "the height of irresponsibility" (White House Bonus Hypocrisy | Investor's Business Daily). So why was it okay to criticize wall street yet you do nothing when the same thing was taking place with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (Fannie, Freddie Bonuses Total About $210 Million - WSJ)? But more recently where is the outcry with the IRS giving out bonuses (IRS to pay $70 million in bonuses (cnn.com))? The IRS has wasted millions of dollars on their meetings (ie. Line dancing video, ....), missing receipts for their tax deductions, incorrectly sent rebates out, and targeted conservative leaning groups (ie. Tea Party, Patriot, 912, and some religious organizations). So again I ask where is the outcry, the investigation, the public humiliation that wall street firms were subjected to in the beginning of this administrations first term?
I also am calling out the press as well. The myriad of cartoons and other pundits joining in on the wall street bonus frenzy was tremendous. I don't see the same fervor today about the IRS. Pure hypocrisy from an agenda driven administration and progressive media. Personally, I never agreed with the bailouts then and was agitated at some of the firms considering bonuses. Likewise, I am equally against the IRS waste and abuse. At least with wall street I can vote with my pocketbook and voice my concerns as a shareholder. How can I punish the IRS?
It is up to all of us to be consistent and point out abuse and misguided actions on all sides. It is up to us to demand accountability and justice when those parties are out of line. This should not be a political party issue but an American issue. We must stand for values, morals, ethics, and the rule of law. Not when it is politically advantageous, but everyday. It is time to stop the hypocrisy!
