NFL Player Protest & Black Lives Matter Lunacy

The current protest by players of the NFL and more recently the MLB had me wondering just what are the players protesting? The reason I ask is that as I read countless social media posts it is obvious that many have lost sight of what started all of this. What I will try to do is bring the storyline back to its roots and show that it is all based on a false narrative that has ultimately spilled blood. So what did Kaepernick say why he was protesting the national anthem.

  • "I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color," Kaepernick told NFL Media in an exclusive interview after the game. "To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder."

First, he has the right to protest if that what he chooses to do. It is his first amendment right to do so. Naturally, that right does not guarantee freedom from consequences, which you have seen both from owners and fans. So people on both sides of this issue need to accept that and stop the phony red herring arguments. The real question you should be asking is the narrative he is espousing accurate? I would say that this BLM rhetoric is a false narrative not supported by the facts. I would also say the media has done a disservice by exciting an environment that supports false perception which has led to violence against our officers in blue. So let us look at some facts that come from multiple sources.

  1. 50% of people killed by a cop were white while 26% were black. You may say well if you take into account the black population vs white population blacks are being killed more. That is very short sighted as cops mainly engage criminals not entire populations of a race. (Source 1, 2, 6).

  2. Blacks by proportion commit more violent crime and homicides (Sources 2, 5). In fact did you know that on average blacks commit ~50% of the homicides? Why doesn't BLM, NFL, and weak kneed businesses disseminate that statistic? By this population commuting more violent crime there is a higher likelihood that confrontation with police officers happen and a higher chance of a lethal outcome.

  3. Poverty is more of an indicator of crime than race (Source 5). So it seems the root cause of crime is poverty. Therefore, if you can decrease poverty, you decrease crime, and decrease interaction with the police. Why doesn't the race merchants use their influence to keep black families together and tout education/trades as a means of escaping poverty and crime (Source: 8, 9)

  4. Unarmed black men being killed actually has decreased, and many media versions of unarmed were incorrect and had to be retracted (Source 3, 4).

  5. BLM, media, and politicians promoting a false narrative continues the false perception and stoke the hatred towards police. This has led to a rise of police officers being executed like in Dallas and New York (source 7).

I can keep drilling down on the arguments that are the tinder that started this protest by professional players. I encourage you to visit the links below I provided so you can inform yourself. I am saddened by the protest as I am a sports lover. I am not saddened that the players are actually protesting, but they are misguided and their inner anger is misplaced. They are perpetuating a story that is not backed by the facts and will continue the killing of cops. It also saddens me that by protesting the flag, which represents all people, they are actually identifying all people as promoting injustice. This is a racist stance. By Kaepernick, only singling out blacks being killed by cops and not all races, he again shows identity politics and a form of racism. It is a shame that they are choosing a negative action instead of working on solving the root problem which is poverty and a crime culture in all neighborhoods. They could be a positive force yet they have chosen to let their anger, and I would say racism blind them from the truth. That truth being most cops are honorable and there to help others. The few that fail they need and will be punished. I guess if we use the player's logic, those players that cheat or use drugs,... tarnishes all players? You can see the flaw in that logic. With that I have chosen to turn off the games as I will not support an action that leads to more violence against cops. I choose to take that time to be a positive role model and encourage the youth to avoid poverty, avoid crime, and set the odds to live a happy life. Make Each Day Count Beach Bum Philosopher
